Head of Policy, Rachel Smith

Rachel joins AFF from a public sector grant-making organisation that provides charitable funding to the Armed Forces community, where she specialised in policy, impact, evaluation and research. She is currently studying for her MSc in Public Health Policy at King’s College London, with particular research interest in mental health pathways.

In her spare time, she is a Trustee for a Bristol-based charity that supports children and young people with additional needs and their families. Rachel has been a member of the Armed Forces community for most of her life, wearing a number of different ‘hats’ as daughter, partner, wife, war widow and now wife of a REME veteran.

She is privileged to be able to bring lived experience to her role to bring empathy and understanding to the challenges Armed Forces families face.
