Emma Perrin, AFF’s Devolved Nations Manager, was a panel member at the Wales Armed Forces Community Conference at the end of May.
The session reflected on the Armed Forces Covenant and provided a forum for exchanging ideas to improve its delivery across Wales.
Emma provided examples of how the Armed Forces Covenant has impacted military families, and she also highlighted areas we feel could be improved, such as the disadvantages faced by Army families when moving on posting, including healthcare waiting lists, differences in education and spousal employment. She asked for the continued training of frontline workers on the Armed Forces Covenant so that they can help military families from the first call or email.
Hannah Blythyn, the Deputy Minister for Social Partnership, said: “We really appreciate the support all three Families Federations gave to our Wales Armed Forces Community Conference. It was excellent to have the voice of families represented, highlighting important issues around health, education and employment for Service families.
“We know many Service families make Wales their home and we value the regular engagement we have with the Army, Naval and RAF Families Federations. We look forward to a continued strong relationship.”
