AFF Manager England, Carole Rudd met serving personnel at the South West Allied Services event which was held at the Services Cotswold Centre in Corsham. This was a great opportunity to connect charities and other organisations with the Army Welfare Service and Unit Welfare teams.
Vicky Harker, Deputy Area Welfare Support Officer, Army Welfare Service, Salisbury Plain said:
“Having a wide and varied range of agencies in attendance including AFF, provides a valuable opportunity for a greater understanding of the support available for Service personnel and their families.
“Service personnel are able to discuss issues that are affecting their soldiers and families at these events, strengthening links, breaking down barriers and creating additional opportunities at unit level.”
Carole spoke with the chain of command and Unit Welfare Officers about the concerns which are currently affecting their personnel and families, including visas for non-UK families, spousal employment and housing as well as health and isolation. She was also able to look around the facilities and understand more about the accommodation available to the military community and how they can access it – so she can ensure that the guidance AFF gives is up to date and accurate.
