The Army Families Federation – along with our colleagues in the RAF and Naval Families Federations – gave evidence to the Scottish Affairs Committee at its inquiry ‘Defence in Scotland: military personnel and estate’. We welcome the resulting report, which acknowledges the important role that families play in supporting the Army in Scotland.
Some of the key concerns that Army families have raised with us are reflected in the report recommendations, including the provision of information to families on moving to Scotland and the ability for spouses and partners to transfer their qualifications across the border.
As part of the Government’s response to the report, the MOD will work with the General Teaching Council Scotland to review and update their guide for transferring teaching qualifications.
Other accredited governing bodies and professions set their own standards and qualification requirements. While this is not an area where the MOD has any jurisdiction, it stated that it will work, through the Families Strategy, with devolved administration colleagues to improve awareness of differences.
The MOD also highlighted the My World of Work careers website, which can be used by spouses and partners to translate their qualifications and skills north of the border.
